Box Day 2015
On Saturday 27th June the sun made a welcome appearance as this year’s Box Day festivities started with the children enjoying the usual traditional games, ably organised by Andy Nash & Alison Shaw. The adults were not left out as there was an opportunity for their athletic skills to be tested in the egg and spoon, three legged races and the sprint.
Box Day is a good chance for friends old and new to catch up over a cup of tea (or beer) and a piece of cake.
There was just enough time for the rounder’s match before ‘Fledgling Music’ arrived to entertain young and old alike (yes the adults did get to play with bee puppets!!). A story about Bees had been chosen and was accompanied by music and puppets, Lorna from fledgling music skilfully tailored the story to suit a varied age range and soon had them all participating.
The theme of Bees had been carried through to this year pre Box Day craft workshop as children (and adults) had the chance to make bees and flowers to decorate the marquee, which they did with great skill and a lot of glue!!
The lighting of the BBQ’s heralded the start of the evening’s entertainment which was provided this year by ‘Walking the Dog’ a local blues and boogie Band, thanks to a fortunate bid at Itteringham auction of promises.
They proved to be excellent and there were a few brave souls who got up to dance!
The evening wound down to a slower pace as the bonfire was lit and everyone enjoyed what was left of a beautiful warm evening.
This just leaves me to thank all those who helped on the day, with the teas, baking cakes, raffle, name the hippo, setting up and taking down of the marquee, awnings etc. and Bob & Gill shoals who stepped in to give me a hand.
I now hand over the reins to next year’s organizers Andy Nash & Nicola Poole.
